GIS Specialist

The Denco Area 9-1-1 District located in Lewisville, Texas is soliciting resumes from self-motivated, professional individuals to perform day-to-day Geographic Information Systems (GIS) maintenance functions in the position of GIS Specialist. The GIS Specialist creates highly accurate data for the Denco GIS database.

The specialist complies with GIS data guidelines, standards, plans and procedures for effective data creation, migration, collection, conversion, translation, integration, and quality control using a variety of resources such as aerial photography, Pictometry, parcel data, building footprints and tax information.

The GIS Specialist duties may include assignment of new addresses and determination of 9-1-1 call routing based on geographic and other factors. Accuracy is crucial in the performance of these tasks and the constant application of “quality assurance, quality control” (QA/QC) processes is required to ensure continuous accuracy improvement of all databases supporting 9-1-1 services. The GIS Specialist will facilitate the flow of technical information between partner jurisdictions, vendors, telephone companies, and other entities while extensively collaborating with partner jurisdictions to collect and verify data and information necessary for effectively and efficiently maintaining the District's 9-1-1 systems.

The selected individual will work in a team environment to provide exceptional customer service and further Denco’s value proposition supporting 9-1-1 across the district and serving nine emergency communications centers. Experience with the ESRI and ArcGIS desktop suite including ArcGIS, ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo, and/or the ArcGIS Server platform is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Geography or a related degree is preferred. Experience with the use of GIS applications will be considered in lieu of the educational preference. Knowledge and experience in the public safety communications field, working with 9-1-1 databases would be helpful. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Public Safety Outreach & Communications Intern

Denco Area 9-1-1 District Intern Opportunity

Summary: The Denco Area 9-1-1 District is seeking an energetic and responsible intern to gain valuable skills and experience supporting the agency’s outreach and community engagement functions. This internship will provide hands-on opportunities to assist with 9-1-1 public education initiatives and community events, support public safety initiatives, and contribute to the agency’s overall engagement strategy. The intern candidate should be skilled at following oral and written instructions, interacting with the public during in-person events, meeting developed timelines, and producing high quality detailed work products.

Work Hours: Temporary/Part-time; approximately 20-25 hours per week.

Compensation: $15/hour

Qualifications:

  • Must be a full-time student at a high school, college or university. Must be at least 16 years old.

  • Strong interest in communications, marketing, outreach, emergency services support and/or administrative work in a government agency.

  • Ability to follow instructions and perform work accurately and thoroughly, with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly.

  • Ability to use reasoning skills to solve problems.

  • Ability to work with others effectively in a team environment.

  • Ability to use technology effectively and ability to learn new software systems.

  • Availability to attend evening and weekend events preferred.
